Gudrun Gudlaugsdottir, granddaughter of Grimhild, is a devotee of the Raven Queen, like her mother, grandmother, and even more distant ancestors before her, as far back as anyone in her family can remember. In a land of ice and snow, winter is fearful, but also something to be accepted, respected, and worshiped. Members of the Mica dwarven clan, Gudrun’s family was opposed to the original treaty between their clan and Garrick the Forger, and were even less fond of his weak son and heir.

Born during Royce the Quiet’s reign, Gudrun has inherited her family’s distaste for the meddlesome Thrannish empire, particularly for the increased migration of humans into Fauchard and the rule of Bryce the Game, a power-hungry, crippled, non-dwarven king. Gudrun is unwilling to use her abilities as a newly-minted paladin to serve Bryce, but she is uncertain how best to serve her family and her divine mistress. And she knows she is not yet nearly the paladin that her mother nor grandmother was. She needs experience and wisdom, and these can be best gained by leaving, for a time, her ancestral home.
